In order to give you the very best in eye care, we focus on four areas:

You can be confident of consistent care from a friendly and close-knit group, who know you and understand your eyecare needs. Our patients are part of our family.

Brian Tompkins

Director & Optometrist

BSc(Hons) FCOptom FBCLA

Brian has owned the practice since 1985, joined by his wife Nicky in 2002.

He is actively involved in day-to-day patient care and is a highly-regarded international speaker on specialist contact lenses and innovation, dry eye management and technology in practice. Brian is also a clinical consultant on behalf of leading contact lens and ophthalmic imaging manufacturers.

A true visionary, his tireless and pioneering work in his field ensures that both the practice and the team working at Tompkins Knight & Son remains at the forefront of professional development.

Away from work Brian is a keen cyclist, skier and cook. He was once pipped at the post in the final of BBC MasterChef!

Nicky Tompkins

Nicky was press-ganged into working in the business on a short term basis to help introduce a new computerised software management system. The short term has extended into a period of 12 years. Previously she has been a teacher, and sold overseas property (amongst other things).

She is involved with the day to day running of the business, product buying, and making coffee!

Any remaining time is taken up with her three delightful grandchildren, playing tennis and attempting to learn golf.

Keyur Patel

BSc(Hons) OD DipTP(IP) DipGlauc FAAO FCOptom FBCLA

Keyur is originally from London and went to school in Watford. He graduated in optometry from City University in 1999 and continued his studies for three years in the USA where he obtained his Doctor of Optometry qualification.

Keyur has also gained diplomas in both glaucoma and independent prescribing enabling him to treat many eye conditions without the need for onward referral to a doctor or hospital. He has a vast level of experience running community based clinics for glaucoma management as well as in independent private practices such as ours.

Away from work, Keyur enjoys spending time with his wife and young son. If time allows his hobbies include watching movies, attempting to play sport, reading and photography. His favourite colour is red, but Brian insists he wears black to work!

Debra Grant

BSc(Hons) MCOptom

Debra has more than 20 years’ experience as an optometrist with a particular interest in elderly and paediatric eyecare. She is accredited for the cataract, glaucoma and ocular hypertension referral refinement and monitoring scheme by the Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU).

She also has a special interest in binocular vision running a specialist clinic.

Debra has worked at Tompkins Knight & Son since 2007, becoming a much-valued member of the team.

Outside work Debra enjoys singing in a choir. She is also an accomplished photographer and provided the spectacular images you can see in the hallway of the practice.

Lyndon Bird

Clinical Technician

Lyndon is our primary Clinical Technician and supports the optometrists by ensuring our Enhanced Diagnostic scans give the fullest possible picture of a patient’s eye health. He also undertakes many of the procedures involved in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye disease and is expert at showing new, and often apprehensive contact lens wearers how to manage their daily routines.

He previously spent eighteen months in China teaching English, and lived and worked in New York for a summer.

He enjoys countryside pursuits, skiing, swimming, cross county running and going to the gym. Lyndon also loves gastronomy, classical music and reading.

Jo Ashby

Head Receptionist

Jo has been with Tompkins, Knight & Son since 2006 and has 17 years of optical experience. She is our head receptionist and what she doesn’t know about all the role’s associated activities isn’t worth knowing. She is an amazing multitasker and does a great job of keeping all the optometrists in order!

She loves spending time with family and friends, and looking after her gorgeous grandchildren. Other hobbies include cooking, reading and listening to music.

Kasia Pegiel-Rosiewicz

Kasia is the newest member of the team. She has 15 years’ management experience in hospitality and loves being face to face with people. She is eager to learn all there is to know about optics and assists Lyndon with diagnostic scans in his absence.

Kasia loves fashion and is passionate about travelling with her family and learning about new cultures. She is fluent in English and her native Polish.

Isobel Broomfield

Isobel started with us as an apprentice in March 2021 and has continued to flourish ever since. She has developed a real passion for optics and will soon be taking her final exam. Isobel is keen to take her qualification further into dispensing as her career develops. Born and raised in Northampton, she spends a lot of time with family and particularly enjoys looking after her nephews.

At TK&S our policy of investing in the very latest diagnostic equipment enables us to discover, document and monitor eye and systemic health conditions that could otherwise go undetected. With our state-of-the-art Optos California and Topcon Triton machines, not only are we getting the widest imaging possible, we can take cross-sectional images of the retina.
